Paris

Paris is the capital city of France. It is the biggest city in France. About two million people live in Paris itself. The whole area around Paris has about thirteen million people. Paris sits on a river called the Seine.

People call Paris the City of Light. This nickname came from when Paris was a center of new ideas. Since the seventeen hundreds, Paris has been very important. It is known for money, art, fashion, and good food. Many important things happen there.

Paris is split into twenty neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has its own special feel and style. Long ago, someone changed Paris by building wide streets and parks. This made Paris look modern and beautiful. Today, Paris has trains, highways, and a big airport. The airport is one of the busiest in Europe. Paris also has an underground train system called the Metro. The Metro stations are decorated and famous around the world.

Paris has many amazing museums and buildings. Some museums show paintings by famous French artists. Other museums show modern art from around the world. The old buildings along the Seine river are so special that they are protected by the world. People visit from everywhere to see them.

Paris is where the leader of France works. Important world groups meet in Paris too. The city hosts big sports events like tennis matches. Paris even had the Summer Olympics three times. Paris is truly one of the most important and beautiful cities in the whole world.
