Madrid

Madrid is the biggest city in Spain. More than three million people live there. It is a very important city for the whole country.

Madrid sits on a river called the Manzanares. The city is in the middle part of Spain. It is quite high up, about as tall as twenty tall buildings stacked on top of each other.

A long, long time ago, Madrid was just a small fort with walls around it. This was almost one thousand years ago. Later, important kings and queens decided to live there. This made Madrid grow bigger and more important. Today it is one of the biggest cities in all of Europe.

Madrid is famous for many beautiful places. The Royal Palace is a huge, fancy building where kings lived. There is a big park called Buen Retiro where people can walk and play. Madrid also has three amazing art museums next to each other. These museums have paintings and sculptures from all over the world.

Many people visit Madrid every year. Visitors come from America, Italy, France, and many other countries. They come to see the beautiful buildings and museums. Madrid is also home to two very famous soccer teams. People from all over the world love to watch them play.
