Tyrannosaurus was a huge meat-eating dinosaur. The most famous one is called Tyrannosaurus rex, or T. rex for short. It lived a very long time ago in North America. This was about 66 to 69 million years ago. It was one of the last big dinosaurs before they all died out.
Tyrannosaurus rex was enormous and scary. It walked on two very strong back legs. Its tail was long and heavy and helped it balance. Its front arms were short but very powerful. It had sharp claws on its front feet. The biggest T. rex was about as long as four school buses parked in a row. It was as tall as a two-story house at the hips. It weighed as much as 10 elephants put together.
T. rex had the strongest bite of any animal that ever walked on land. It hunted other dinosaurs to eat them. Scientists think it hunted big plant-eating dinosaurs. It may have also eaten dead dinosaurs it found. For a long time, scientists argued about whether T. rex was a hunter or just ate dead animals. Now most scientists believe it did both things.
Scientists have found many T. rex fossils. Some skeletons are almost complete. Scientists have even found soft parts like skin and proteins in some fossils. This helps them learn how T. rex lived and moved. T. rex has been one of the most famous dinosaurs since the early 1900s. People love it and it appears in movies and museums all around the world.
