Lion

Lions are big wild cats. They live in Africa and India. Male lions are bigger than females. Male lions have big, fluffy manes around their heads and necks. The mane makes them look very strong and scary.

Lions live in grasslands and open areas with lots of space. They hunt animals like zebras and antelopes. Lions like to rest during the day and hunt at night. They live together in family groups called prides. A pride has many female lions and their babies. A few male lions also live with them. The female lions work together to hunt food for everyone.

Long ago, lions lived all over Africa and Asia. Now there are not many lions left. Many lions have died because people took away their homes. People and lions sometimes fight over land. Scientists say we need to protect lions so they do not disappear forever.

Lions are famous all around the world. People paint pictures of lions and put them on flags. Lions are in movies and stories. People think lions are very strong and powerful. Long, long ago, people thought lions were magical and special.
