Human anatomy is the study of how our bodies are built. Scientists look at all the parts that make us work. They study big parts we can see with our eyes. They also study tiny parts that need special tools to see.
Our bodies have many systems that work together. Each system has organs, which are special body parts. Organs are made of tissues, which are made of cells. Cells are the tiniest living parts of our bodies. Everything connects together to make us who we are.
Our bodies follow patterns that all animals share. If you look at your spine, you see bones stacked like blocks. Your ribs wrap around like a cage. These patterns show that humans and other animals are related. Our bodies kept these same patterns from long, long ago.
Scientists have learned about our bodies in many ways. A long time ago, they studied dead animals. Then they looked at human bodies to learn more. Today we have special machines that help us see inside bodies without cutting them open. Each new way of learning has helped doctors understand us better.
