Berlin

Berlin is the capital of Germany. It is also Germany's biggest city. About 3.7 million people live in Berlin. That makes it the biggest city in the whole European Union by the number of people living there.

Berlin is one of Germany's states too. The state of Brandenburg surrounds Berlin. The city sits along a river called the Spree. This river flows into another river called the Havel. Berlin has many lakes and forests. About one-third of the city is made up of parks, gardens, water, and trees.

A very long time ago, Berlin became an important city. It was first written about in the 1300s. Berlin was the capital of many different governments throughout history. In the 1920s, Berlin was the third-biggest city in the whole world. Many smart people lived there and made great art and music.

After a big war ended in 1945, Berlin was split into two parts. A wall divided the city for many years. In 1990, the wall came down and Berlin became one city again. Now Berlin is the capital of all of Germany once more.

Today, Berlin is famous all over the world. Many people visit to see amazing buildings and museums. The Brandenburg Gate is one of the most famous landmarks. The city has great schools, zoos, and art galleries. Berlin is also important for science and new technology. Many companies that create new ideas have their offices there.
