Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egypt grew up along the Nile River in Africa. It started around 3150 BC when two kingdoms joined together. One leader named Narmer united Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt into one country. Egypt had times of strength and times of weakness throughout its long history.

Egypt was strongest during the New Kingdom period. At that time, Egypt ruled over many nearby lands and peoples. But then Egypt got weaker over many years. Different countries attacked Egypt, including the Greeks and Romans. Ancient Egypt finally ended around 30 BC when Rome took over completely.

Egypt became great because of the Nile River. Every year, the river flooded and left rich soil for farming. Farmers grew lots of extra food with this soil. This extra food fed many people and helped the country grow strong. The leaders used this strength to build amazing things and trade with other countries.

The ancient Egyptians created wonderful things we still admire today. They built huge stone pyramids and temples that still stand now. They invented ways to write and do math. They made boats, glass, and pottery that were beautiful and useful. They even signed the first peace agreement we know about with another kingdom. People today still study ancient Egypt and love learning about it.
